Q: I read your article Create Desktop Applications with Java-Based Web Technologies and was wondering how I could add mysql to my desktop application? I am creating a java-based web desktop application and was wondering how I could startup mysql so the application could use it and how to package it? Do you know of any articles or examples? Thanks.
A: MySQL would be kind of hard to attach to a desktop app - you'd need to pull in all sorts of native packages, etc. Plus, the GPL makes things hard, depending on your situation. My suggestion would be to look at hsqldb as an embeddable Java relational database instead. I've used hsqldb and been pretty happy with it. Another option would be derby, an Apache project. If you use something like Hibernate (check out my book on Hibernate) you can support both hsqldb and MySQL much more easily. /* $blog_id='111229199760067167'; $blog_mail='wiverson@gmail.com'; include ("blogkomm_show_link.php"); */ ?> |
