BEA's Alchemy to help with mobile applications.

Trying to create applications that work well both in a unconnected and connected environment is extremely hard. Basically, it involves synch of both application code and data. The problem becauses one of an almost infinite array of potential versioning problems.

It's a truly huge problem, one that I can only wish them best of luck on...

The server that houses WWdN got hit by a script kiddie last night.

Between this, and the current flamefests over JBoss (too many back-and-forths to link) to, it's enough to make you *never* want to read comments ever again.

When someone posts things on a web site as "content" with an author, you have some sort of notion who is saying it, and why. Anonymous comments, on the other hand, are just asking for trouble. As cited by the [probably not worksafe] Penny Arcade, the formula seems to be:

Normal Person + Anonymity + Audience = Total f*!#$ [err, jerk]

Don't get me wrong, I certainly believe there is a place for anonymous comments and such. That said, in nearly a decade of Internet usage, I'm sorely pressed to think of a single anonymous comment that was of any use (random jokes on /. don't count as useful).

Sigh.
