Sometimes I really wonder about the software industry. After years of worrying about distribution and making it easy to release software, it now seems that the economics of releasing a pure-software product at times are collapsing.
A day or two ago I needed a tool that would reverse-engineer some Java code into a UML diagram and export it in some sort of vector format. I checked a number of commercial tools, but most of them wouldn't even let me download a trial version without getting a phone call from a sales rep. So, a bit more searching on Google, and I found Fujaba, a complete UML/Java development environment. I had to bump up the memory allocation from 128MB to 500MB, but so far it works great. Amusingly, the only "problem" with it is that it only export SVG vector files, which means that I have to use Batik to convert the graphics into high-resolution TIFFs - despite all of the fuss over SVG, I can't seem to find anything that will convert directly from SVG into EPS (commercial or not). What a strange world. /* $blog_id='107584459771409388'; $blog_mail='wiverson@gmail.com'; include ("blogkomm_show_link.php"); */ ?> |
