This java.sun.com article has a very elegant description of the new support for generics in the 1.5 release of Java, and I've got to say that I've decided it would be a very, very good thing. There are a lot of places in Interact (and other applications) where compile-time casting and a more terse retrieval would have led to much better, easier to maintain code.
The beta of 1.5 isn't scheduled until late 2003, and CascadeTG won't switch to it until it's available for Windows, Mac OS X, and RedHat. But, it's good to know it's coming, at least... although as a side note, C++ was adding this sort of stuff just as it started to die off. It'll be interesting to see if this means that sometime between now and 2005 there will be a new language that "everyone should switch to." /* $blog_id='107454638593334172'; $blog_mail='wiverson@gmail.com'; include ("blogkomm_show_link.php"); */ ?> |
